YUL - Nouveau terminal

I'd say YUL should be happy with non-stops to PEK, PVG and NRT right now. A mere 4 years ago there were no flights to East Asia from YUL and now there are 3 non-stops. It'll take time for the market to absorb this dramatic increase in nonstop flights to Asia, so let's be happy with what YUL has for the time being. I would imagine that there quite a few passengers flying YUL-PEK/PVG/NRT that continue on towards HKG. A nonstop to HKG at this point might cannibalize these nascent flights.

I'll also add that YUL can only be a true Canadian hub once it has flights to secondary Canadian cities like YQR and YXE. I'm sure the arrival of the CSeries next year will open up new opportunities across North America from YUL, including SEA and SAN.

Il y a la fréquence des vols aussi a considérer, juste YVR-HKG tu as AC, Cathay et HongKong Airlines qui font le vol, c'est 1 destination mais minimum 3 vols par jour

Je suis d'accord avec toi. Le Canada est en effet un très beau pays et il y a plein de beaux endroits et de belles villes à visiter. Cependant le traffic aérien n'est pas que touristique. Les gens peuvent également se déplacer pour d'autres raisons, comme bien évidemment pour faire des affaires, mais aussi pour visiter des membres de sa famille ou des amis.

Si le traffic intérieur à YUL est relativement bas par rapport au traffic international, ou trans-frontalier, c'est à mon avis en bonne partie attribuable au fait que les Québécois, surtout chez les francophones, ont moins de famille et d'amis dans les autres provinces.

Il est d'ailleurs intéressant de comparer Montréal et Calgary à ce niveau là. Cette dernière nous a devancé pendant un certain temps à cause justement du très grand nombre de travailleurs venus de d'autres provinces sur une base temporaire et qui retournent périodiquement à la maison.

Petit détail à ajouter qui fait toute la différence: comme les montréalais n'ont plus besoin de correspondre à Toronto ou Vancouver pour les vols d'Asie, ce sont autant de passagers domestiques qui disparaissent de la compilation. Un phénomène qui ira grandissant avec d'autres destinations comme Tokyo et l'éventuelle hausse des fréquences en général.

Vancouver really does generate a lot of its numbers from Pacific bound travel. If you took that out including those using it as s connecting hub from the US and the rest of Canada my guess is it would be more like Montreal.. perhaps even less since it’s and end point in the country.

Let's not forget that adding this many gates will allow for additional bank of flights, increasing hub operations for Air Canada and Air Transat, and even maybe Westjet (however far-fetched that may sound), who are going to be capacity-limited at YYZ not too long from now.
