Without the runway extension at Billy Bishop, a narrow body jet expansion of this airline into Pearson puts it in a higher risk category. They are having trouble selling the Cseries with comfortable margins as it stands, it would really suck to be stuck with a hundred slots to fill if Porter goes tits-up. I suspect they’ll more likely get bought out In a wave of industry consolidation. There’s too many low cost airlines in Canada fighting it out with over size jets at the moment. 1
SameGuy
Lol and it’s AC that buys them and they say, “Dammit! We just unloaded our Embryos!” 1

The other 50 are purchase rights, but are not firm. Either way, even if Porter did fold, those delivery slots would get taken over fairly quickly. Demand for the CSeries is outpacing supply at the moment. They can't roll out the planes fast enough. It's something Airbus is working on. It will be interesting to see how Porter does with these planes. Their competition (pick any of them) has them beat on CASM (Cost per available seat mile). There is a reason they are the first operator of the E295 in North America. Basing them out of YOW/YHZ and using them on unserved or underserved routes makes sense. Basing them in YYZ/YUL and going up against AC, Flair, TS or WS, all of whom have lower costs/seat, will be a disaster waiting to happen. Porter has been a money losing venture so far. That much we know. And that's with the exclusivity of YTZ and the lower costs of the Q400. Think about that for a second. That exclusivity is now gone, and they are adding a second type of aircraft to the mix, which increases costs all around. It doesn't take a genius to see this venture will have massive headwinds in the short to medium term. I think Porter's end game is to make themselves attractive to be bought out. It can't be AC, as the government and the competition Bureau will object and never approve the deal, at least not without enforcing massive carveouts. That only leaves one other carrier as a potential buyer. WS. There will be a lot of bankruptcy and/or consolidation happening in the short to medium term in this country. All of this lift by established and new carriers is simply unsustainable. On 2023-01-30 at 7:28 PM, caribb said: I suspect they’ll more likely get bought out In a wave of industry consolidation. mont royal
I see that within about a week of inaugurating 3 Daily flights to YUL from Pearson, they have already added a fourth daily. No idea of why...but it would be neat to know the details behind such a rapid change.
mont royal
They are now scheduling 6 daily flights from Pearson. No idea what the later fall/winter plans might be. 2

SameGuy
Weird. I only just noticed when looking at @Rocco's pics that the E2 doesn't have any winglets. Had to go check my pics.
