I think bad pronunciation is more about unknowledgment of the other language, because ask to an american to pronounce the name José and the majority of american gonna pronounce the J (jota) a la spanish way because they know how the hispanics are telling that name.

Je pense qu'on devrait prononcer le nom d'un joueur dans sa langue. Ceci étant dit, en anglais ils ne se posent généralement pas tant de questions; ils anglicisent allègrement les noms francophones. Pensez à Vinny Lecavalier, Danny Brière ou Mario Lemiou. En tant que société, j'aime mieux avoir un petit groupe isolé qui se pose la question à savoir s'il faut franciser la prononciation des noms plutôt que de simplement angliciser tout ce qu'on peut sans considérations envers les joueurs et leur langue. La position plus extrême ou plus farfelue est débatue au Québec alors que plus souvent elle est simplement appliquée d'emblée dans l'Anglosphère.

En effet... Tant qu'à être hors-sujet, je rappellerai une discussion surréaliste venue du Globe and Mail. Dans la section débat, un francophone avait parlé de Vladimir Poutine en écrivant... Poutine. Il s'était fait tombé dessus par une meute d'anglos qui l'on traité de parochial frenchy jamais sorti du Québec, quasiment de raciste, etc. Parce que, you know, "the real name is PUTIN". Le pauvre franco avait beau répliquer que comme il s'agit d'un nom russe (Пу́тин), chaque langue le transcrivait à sa manière, rien n'y a fait. Le Québec au complet prouvait encore une fois qu'il était parochial borderline racist parce qu'ici on écrit Poutine...

Les francais en france aussi ecrivent poutine. Surement pour une question de phonetique. Les espagnols , italien, portugais ecrivent Putin.

En espagnol et portugais le U sonne OU.

 

Je n'ai pas vu ces commentaires sur le globe and mail. J'aurai repliquer aux anglos que si on prononce le nom de famille de Vladimir de la maniere qu'il voudraient qu'on l'ecrive, son nom aurait un sens péjoratif. Et sonnerait comme Putain.

Oh yes good point, I am so far removed from caring about what the papers outside Quebec I forgot why. Every single chance they see to bash Quebec, usually completely unfairly and hypocritically do, like in this case. I started this thread because I feel like we as Montrealers and Québécois should be more mature about language things, this is how Montréal came to be and why it is such a amazing place. Thisvis why I started the thread, people from here know that the hanglish have there certain issues working the french language and as do the francophones in english. A band of fools write articles that make us look as such especially due to the fact that media outside Quebec grasp to stupid little to attack us about. I just don't appreciate a band of fools making us look like idiots, especially since they are not even a recognized group.
