Air Transat en Cote d Ivoire?

The natural transportation hub of West Africa should be Lagos, but its profoundly chaotic nature discourages travellers, and most will try to avoid it. Abidjan has been working on filling this vacuum and its efforts to become the primary hub of the region seem to be bearing fruit. In some ways, Dakar could also an serve as a hub to the region, as well as being an important tourist destination given its beautiful coastline and relatively well developed tourist infrastructure. It is certainly a major destination for French tourists. However, Abidjan is more central and with its new hubbing role, offers great connections to Sahelian Africa (Mali, Niger and Bourkino Fasso) which is where most Montrealers of African origin have come from. AT is, of course, a holiday specialist, but the continent of Africa now represents probably the fastest growing economy of any continent. The logical point of entry to Africa from North America is West Africa and since, with the important exception of Nigeria, it is largely francophone, Montreal is well placed to play a cutting edge role here.

Abidjan as hub:

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Air France-KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Alexandre de Juniac says the Franco-Dutch carrier has longterm plans to develop regional hubs in West and East Africa.

Speaking in the Ivory Coast last week, de Junaic said his firm saw potential for Abidjan to become a West African hub in ten years time, while Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta could play the same role for East Africa. As such, plans call for local regional operators to provide feed into the Europeans' longhaul network.

"In the next five to ten years, as a strategic destination for us, yes, we see Abidjan as a regional hub," he was quoted by the AFP.
