Curtain walls (Icone, l'Avenue) ae different from window walls (common in cheaper Vancouver and Toronto condo towers from recent years). The former basically uses the same technique as office buildings, which has proven its durability. The latter differs in that the window panels are installed in between floor plates rather than hanging as a continuous "curtain" in front of them. While cheaper and better for soundproofing, this typically exacerbates the insulation problems seen in numerous Vancouver and Toronto condos.

 

I lived in such a condo for three years in Vancouver, and can attest that insulation around where the window panel meets the floor plates is indeed problematic. A curtain wall such as what we're seeing on our higher end towers in Montreal is immune to this by design.

Disons que nous avons la chance de profiter des erreurs des autres. Disons aussi que notre climat plus rigoureux nous impose une meilleure isolation. Comme quoi la froid peut-être un allié inattendu quand il s'agit de construire mieux.
