Headquarters to move downtown in November 2011

The AMT is to move around November 2011 - when their current lease ends - to 700 de la Gauchetière at the corner of University St.

 

This week, the AMT put out a call for tenders for the renovation of its new head office, which is to occupy about 65,000 square feet, an industry source says. The AMT's current location at 500 Place D'Armes, which offers nice views of the river, was simply becoming too crowded.

 

The building's landlord, Le Groupe Alfid, recently published an advertisement offering the agency's three-storey space for rent as of December 2011.

 

The decision to move its head office wasn't published in the three-year capital-works budget the AMT made public a few weeks ago.

 

The AMT is spending $355 million on maintenance facilities in Point St. Charles. But the agency could not build its head office at the same site because the land is besides the train tracks.

 

"These are two completely different things, a maintenance centre and a head office," explained AMT spokesperson Martine Rouette.
