Est-ce que vous croyez à l'évolution? Si oui, pourquoi, si non, pourquoi?

Est-ce que vous croyez au créationnisme? Si oui, pourquoi, si non, pourquoi?

 

Aux États-Unis c'est une question plutôt difficile qui divise bien des gens. Je suis curieux de savoir ce que vous en pensez.

 

Un énorme pourcentage de la population ne crois pas à l'évolution!

 

Je suis curieux de connaitre les avis des mtlurbeurs.

I believe in (or should I say, accept as fact) evolution and reject creationism as foolishness. Though i reject creationism as pure fantasy, I do believe it's possible to believe in God and still accept evolution. It's the same with the big bang... all you have to do is believe that God started the big bang, and set evolution in motion. (I'm not saying I personally believe this either, but i'm just demonstrating how these two ideas aren't mutually exclusive, as many people propose.)

 

I dislike young earth creationists... (people that believe the earth is 6000 years old and that it was literally created in 6 days... although if a day is defined as 1 rotation of the earth on its axis, and no earth yet, how could you........ ahh forget i brought it up.)

 

One of my girlfriend's cousins is a young earth creationist and I recently had the misfortune of debating her for 30 minutes. The whole debate was basically like this:

 

Me: facts, rational explanations, more facts

Her: LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU

C'est la meilleure explication que je peux voir pour le développement de la vie. Régulièrement, quand je me demande pourquoi la biologie fonctionne de telle ou telle façon, je me pose la question avec la perspective de l'évolution et je trouve généralement une réponse.

 

Je trouve ironique que ce soit souvent la droite qui ne croit pas en l'évolution. La même droite qui croit au capitalisme... Le capitalisme est la version économique de l'évolution, la survie du plus fort, l'innovation qui donne des avantage sur ses concurrents. Le créationnisme est une forme de communisme cosmique où on remplace le mot "Gouvernement" par le mot "Dieu".

La réponse se doit de satisfaire le maximum de gens et cela indépendamment de toutes croyances. Toutes les religions passées et présentes ont eu leur cosmologie pour expliquer l'existence du monde. Certaines étaient plus fantaisistes que d'autres, mais toutes sont basées sur des mythes et des croyances transmises oralement pour la plupart, dans une culture donnée et sur un territoire limité, à un moment de l'Histoire humaine.

 

On arrive donc à une multitude d'interprétations sur le même sujet et l'impossibilité d'un consensus, chacun tentant d'imposer sa propre vision à l'intérieur de ses traditions plus ou moins séculaires ou millénaires. Mais un fait demeure, il y a un monde commun dans lequel nous faisons tous partie et ce monde n'a pu avoir qu'une seule origine.

 

Seule la science a le pouvoir d'amener la réflexion au-delà de ces multiples interprétations, en ne retenant que des faits précis prouvés et clairement démontrés. Ainsi tous ceux qui ont l'intelligence et le jugement suffisamment développés, ont la possibilité de dépasser leurs propres croyances et accepter des connaissances universelles vérifiables et parfaitement explicables par le biais de l'évolution.

 

Aujourd'hui grâce à l'astro-physique, l'astronomie, la physique quantique etc, on arrive à la conclusion que le monde est un tout en constante expansion et évolution, de l'infiniment petit à l'infiniment grand. Que la Terre est une petite planète comme toutes les autres et qu'elle porte la vie simplement parce que les conditions de base y étaient favorables.

 

Qu'arrive un déplacement d'orbite d'une planète solide de notre système solaire qui la positionnerait idéalement pour soutenir la vie, la vie s'y établirait certainement en quelques centaines de millions, ou qui sait un milliard d'années tout comme elle l'a fait ici-même sur notre Terre. La vie est latente dans l'univers et n'attend que des conditions favorables pour s'y développer, c'est un fait naturel.

 

Et cette vie nouvelle aurait fort probablement ses propres créatures vivantes, probablement très différentes de celles connues à travers les âges terrestres. Ce nouveau monde en évolution répondrait à un équilibre totalement particulier et en fonction de paramètres uniques et singuliers à cette même planète.

 

Le plus bel exemple de conditions particulières en ce qui concerne la Terre, est la présence de la Lune qui a influencé par son effet gravitationnel autant les mouvements sismiques et tectoniques, que les marées et toutes les espèces qui en dépendent.

 

Enlever la Lune et vous aurez un monde suffisamment différent pour aller jusqu'à mettre en danger la vie telle que nous la connaissons. Mais pas la vie elle-même qui prendrait nécessairement une nouvelle orientation en recherchant un nouvel équilibre des forces en présence. La Lune s'éloigne d'ailleurs de la Terre de quelques mètres par année, on peut donc envisager à long terme sa disparition et des changements naturels qui en découleront.

 

Mais quand on parle d'astronomie, on parle d'échelle de temps en milliards d'années et de distances infranchissables. A l'échelle humaine on est dans ce qui nous semble être l'éternité et l'infinité. Des concepts encore mal compris qui font alors appel, à tort, à un dieu créateur pour rassurer l'Homme face à cette immensité qui le dépasse complètement.

Si le créationnisme chrétien est vraiment ce qui s'est passé, alors nous vivons tous aujourd'hui la plus grosse histoire d'inceste ayant jamais eu lieu.

I'll probably seem like a freak for saying this, for me my belief is we were created and than evolved. I know that doesn't make a lot of sense. For me something had to be created first for something to evolve. I did vote for I believe in evolution.

I would say yes - we even see evolution occuring with bacteria who are immune to antibiotics

 

However I don't know how far evolution will work with humans at least into the future -> because we can adapt ourselves immediately to the environment and have no real need to change, witness all of us here in Canada who would die quickly if we lived naked in the forest...

Cyrus: Humans are still evolving today. Every day someone is born with a genetic mutation that blocks cancer, or a mutation that enhances color perception into the ultra-violet, etc. In fact every person has hundreds of mutations that were not present in the parents' genes. Those mutations that carry any value will be passed down, but it will take time. Considering evolution on a grand scale takes millions of years and the human lifespan is 1/10,000th of that, we won't exactly be turning into beings of pure energy any time soon, but we will be obtaining subtle "tweaks" to our overall genetics.

 

jesseps: Something has always existed though. It's something of a paradox, but the universe has always existed. The big bang didn't "create" the universe, the universe already existed, in a different state... a singularity.. a state of infinitesimally small and dense matter and/or energy. You can't think of a "time before the big bang" because time didn't exist before the big bang. I know this goes into the realm of the "mind blowing" but that's pretty much the accepted stance. However.. all this being said, the big bang doesn't disallow the idea of a creator initiating the big bang and setting everything in motion, perhaps even with a "plan" of how the universe and the big bang were to play out.

 

So if you're religious but you accept science, it's easy to combine the two. Just believe that a god "ignited" the big bang, so to say, and that everything else that followed, the laws of physics to the fact of evolution, were designed and decided by that god!

For those doubters out there, the Theory of Evolution is no longer just a "theory", it's a proven fact.

If earth was 6000 years old. Judaism started some 229 years after, isn't that something. Some say Hinduism started around 8000 BCE. That would put them 2000 years before the planet was born. Guess some creationists never looked into that.
