Les 7 doigts de la main aura son domicile fixe

Fini l'errance pour la troupe de cirque Les 7 doigts de la main qui emménagera finalement dans les anciens locaux du musée Juste pour rire, au 2111, boulevard Saint-Laurent à Montréal, comme elle le souhaitait. Le ministre de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine, Maka Kotto, a annoncé ce matin qu'il répond positivement à la demande d'aide financière de la troupe en accordant une somme de 9 millions $.

 

Cette aide lui permettra de transformer et de mettre aux normes l'ancien édifice de la Brasserie Ekers construit en 1894 et qui a été cédé l'an dernier par le Groupe Juste pour rire pour 1$ à la Société d'habitation et de développement de Montréal (SHDM).

 

Elle ouvre aussi la porte à une aide du ministère du Patrimoine canadien. La Ville de Montréal est le troisième partenaire de la troupe dans ce dossier.

 

Les 7 doigts recherchait depuis des années un siège social assez grand pour ses activités. La troupe a successivement préparé ses spectacles au Théâtre sans fil, à l'École de cirque de Verdun, à l'École nationale de cirque, dans un dépôt du nord de Montréal et dans les bureaux de la troupe, rue Roy.

 

La troupe souhaite installer dans son nouveau local un Centre de création et de production. Elle avait exprimé le souhait d'obtenir du ministère de la Culture le financement d'environ la moitié du coût de cette installation, grâce au Programme d'aide aux immobilisations. Le ministre Kotto a annoncé ce vendredi un accord de principe pour une somme de 9 millions $.

 

La Ville n'a jamais caché sa préférence de voir Les 7 doigts de la main occuper cet espace du Quartier des spectacles. La SHDM souhaitait que la vocation culturelle de l'édifice soit conservée et avait hâte qu'un engagement financier du ministère de la Culture se réalise afin que la vente de l'immeuble puisse se faire.

 

Ayant pour nom un jeu de mots illustrant l'unité de ses sept membres fondateurs (Isabelle Chassé, Shana Carroll, Patrick Léonard, Faon Shane, Gypsy Snider, Sébastien Soldevila et Samuel Tétreault), la troupe des 7 doigts de la main, qui fête cette année ses 10 ans, a créé à ce jour Loft, Traces, La Vie, Psy, Projet Fibonacci, Patinoire, A Muse et Séquence 8, des spectacles dont plusieurs font le tour du monde.
