  1. Before anyone judges me for the fact that I am only 16 years old, I'd like you guys to hear me out. I live in a suburban environment south of montreal, and I've gotten tired of letting others control the way I live my life. Ever since a young age, I have always wanted to be successful. "But how, and from what"? Those words are constantly in my head because I haven't even skimmed to opportunities in life that are there. All that I'm asking is that if anyone see's this, that you would give me some tips on how to invest in real estate, or any tips for starting off. I'm not totally sure how t
  2. Would it not be great is Santiago Calatrava did a design for a new Champlain Bridge in Montreal? It would stand as an Iconic symbol as an entrance into Montreal, What do you guys think? I am gonna try to do up some sketches JC
  3. I promised myself I would not ask for help about this publicly. I am now breaking that promise. I want to buy an engagement ring for my girlfriend and I haven't had any luck yet. I am looking for a simple diamond ring on white gold. I am not looking for anything too expensive or eccentric. A solitaire ring is fine. I prefer if it's a conflict-free diamond (but then again, a lot of what you spend in the US is also used to finance wars, so I don't think there's much difference). My problem is that most jewelries I've been to have a really small selection of simple diamond rings. I'm not looking

  5. I never heard of Gris Gris until this evening at Montreal Fashion Week Gris Gris Honestly if any of you guys or girls are into rings and necklaces. Check out Barry work. I have to say its some of the best I have ever seen. OT: Denis Gagnon show was amazing. The clothes were superb!!!
  6. I hope this becomes an useful thread about the numerous protests that happen in Montreal every year. I'm mainly creating this thread to ask you guys what is all the noise going on in downtown right now? What is that protest about? Is it peaceful/safe? Why are news sources so slow to report things like these?
  7. I'm starting this thread to inquire more about the relationship between the city of Montreal and the province of Quebec. Let me start with some of my observations. Having lived almost 6 years in this city it seems to me that people from Montreal are pretty much split into two categories: Those who consider themselves Quebeckers (mostly francophones) and those who consider themselves Montrealers (mostly anglophones). The former seem to know a lot about the history of Quebec, while the latter know that there used to be a famous restaurant where the Hotel St-Martin now stands, and are informe
  8. A new vision for the country? Harper's federation of fiefdoms will drive Canadian traditionalists nuts LAWRENCE MARTIN From Thursday's Globe and Mail July 31, 2008 at 9:21 AM EDT Prime Minister Stephen Harper has been knocked for not giving the country a sense of direction, for visionlessly plotting and plodding, politics being his only purpose. Not true. Something has been taking shape - and it just took further form with pledges from Transport Minister Lawrence Cannon on the dispersal of federal powers. Yes, Matilda, the Conservatives have a vision. A federation of fiefdom

Why is my tax dollars paying for these guys to "protect and serve". I want them fired or give me my money back. We the people of Quebec are the shareholders. The politicians and the people they hire, should be accountable to us and if we want someones head, we should get it.

  11. I wish I was able to take pictures of the Alexander McQueen exhibit at the MET, but security was like rabid pit bulls The second day I was there, I ended up walking the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. From there did downtown, filmed Obama motorcade walked on the West side along the Hudson back to my hotel in Time Square (zigzagging down different streets). After that walked from the hotel all the way along the Hudson River up to 96th, to 110th (Oh yah, around this time some women had her wallet stolen, luckily 20 guys from that neighbourhood ended up chasing the kid dow
  12. I know there is an artist living in Montreal who paints buildings with nude men on it. Does someone know this guy's website please?
  13. Has anyone here had any experience with NYC nightlife? I've been to some killer house parties on long island, but aside from a bar near Times Square, i never had time to sample the nightlife. In a few weeks, my gf and I are going, and we want a different venue every night Also, a rooftop terrasse would be killer. Are there any in NYC, similar to Terrasse Magnétic, but on a 70-storey building instead of 20 storeys? What do you guys recommend!
  14. Did you guys see this? It's a new illuminated electronic superboard (14' * 48') on the east bound 40 near Viau. It doesn't display video (yet) just a series of advertisments. Very bright and the resolution is impressive! I wonder if they will install others.
  15. Bonjour a tous, Taking a quick Super Bowl break to post something I've wanted to share with you for a few days. Henry Aubin wrote in The Gazette what was presented as an article on the construction of "tall" new rental buildings downtown and questioning the wisdom of allowing this. I personally believe he's a little all over the place in his article and doesn't quite make a coherent argument. I think in the end what annoys me is that the how tall should we build question seems, for some reason, to often be present in this city. Anyhow here's the link you guys judge for yourse
  16. Hello, I'll be in montreal this summer for about 2 months and i'd like to know if there are any affordable apartments I can rent in downtown. The school I'll go to has 2 options, homestay and residences. I stayed at the mcgill residences the first time and well, didn't like the shared bathroom, lack of A/C and the fact that it was extremely small, specially for 700 bucks a month. Homestay could be good, specially for practicing my french but a lot of times the families you stay with are not in montreal but in the suburbs and I like to go out so I don't if there are curfews or som
  17. Guys - look at this http://www.tableaudebordmontreal.com/comparons/activiteeconomique/default1.en.html?mode=print Our economy frankly is shitting the bed. Every year our GDP growth falls behind every Canadian city. When do we hold ourselves and our politicians accountable for this mess? We all hate the Torontonization of the country, but at which point do Montrealers develop an economy that can compete?

  19. Des pancartes dans les fenêtres d'un local sur Ste-Catherine est, côté nord, entre Amherst et Berri: Five Guys Hamburger : Bientôt! Nous embauchons! J'essaierai de penser à prendre des photos.
  20. Obama's favourite burger place has opened in Montreal. I just wish them the best of luck. Seeing Johnny Rockets failed back in the 90s. Krispy Kreme donuts died only within a few years of entering the market in Montreal. Same goes with Red Lobster. (Courtesy of The Montreal Gazette) I just wonder why they opened up on McGill and Saint Maurice (Old Montreal). Of all places. Why not more in the city? Plus right across the street, there is a British-type Fish and Chips restaurant opening up.
