  1. having recently walked through griffintown from downtown towards verdun i found that while the area is filled with many condo projects most of them look they have been there for quite a while and they all seem to be waiting after one another to 'pop' from the ground ... in the meantime the place still looks awfully desolate and abandoned and you have to think that this has an effect on the health of those projects - it's not like the city lacks any plans for griffintown but don't you think they should be more proactive about it and inject some fund in the neighborhood to help spur the growth of all these residential towers instead of waiting for them to actually get built before they do anything ? chicken and the egg kinda situation now it seems but imo the city should be the first to do actually do something and not the private developers .. after all all these years down the road its the city that will still be collecting tax funds if anything gets built - not the initial investors

Condo development proposed for site of former Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet Cheryl Cornacchia The Gazette Monday, September 19, 2011 A public consultation will be held Monday night in Dorval on a zoning change that would pave the way for the construction of a three-storey, 30-unit condominium development across the street from the Pine Beach AMT commuter train station. The zoning change would couple two vacant lots into one property measuring close to 16,000 square metres. One of the properties is the empty lot on the corner of Cardinal Ave. and Pine Beach Blvd. where a Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet stood until it was demolished about five years ag. The other lot is 505 Clement Ave., a private home until it was torn down two years ago. The middle-density housing development is just one of many going up in the West Island along the transportation corridor. "It’s one of the trends," said Mario St. Jean, Dorval’s director of urban planning. Building along the train line "makes sense. You wake up, take your breakfast and, after a quick walk, you are at the train station." St. Jean said a private developer has already submitted plans to Dorval for the project. A similar although larger middle density project is Dorval Espace MV, St. Jean said. Located on Bouchard Blvd., it includes condos, townhouses on property formerly owned by Novartis Canada, the pharmaceutical company. That project is well on its way to completion.   3. MONTREAL - In what can only be described as the most unexpected foodie news of 2010, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is taking over Montreal's Rôtisserie Laurier BBQ, the Gazette has learned. With restaurants in New York, Los Angeles and Florida, Ramsay, 44, already has a foothold in North America. Yet this unpretentious, family-style eatery will be his first foray into the Canadian restaurant scene. Opened in 1936 and located on Laurier Ave. in the heart of Outremont, this Montreal institution has long been famous for its barbecued chicken, chicken noodle soup, hot chicken sandwiches, and sugar pie. As of next February it will be renamed Rôtisserie Laurier BBQ by Gordon Ramsay, and the menu will include the house classics as well as salads, sandwiches, ribs, and hamburgers. Known for his expletive-laced rants on cooking reality shows like Hell's Kitchen, The F Word, and Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, Ramsay most recently faced a whirlwind of personal problems. Yet despite certain setbacks, Ramsay remains a bona fide superstar on the food scene and a successful restaurateur with a three-Michelin-starred restaurant in London, as well as 12 Michelin stars to his name, surpassed only by French chefs, Joel Robuchon and Alain Ducasse. He's also authored some 30 cookbooks, consults all over the world, and has a line of cookware and counter-top appliances.
