Aéroport Montréal-Trudeau (YUL) - Discussion générale

You're putting words in my mouth. The buildings you refer to are iconic and have and aesthetic value. My opinion is that the terminal at YUL does not. I encourage you to look at some of the truly spectacular and unique examples of airport architecture that have been constructed around the world. Should we settle for generic? I'd prefer we didn't. Although I disagree with your opinion, I can certainly respect it. -

Yikes... Fingers crossed we won't be making comparisons between the new YUL and the "new" Forum. -

I hear what you're saying. That said, if we were talking about something like this... or this... ... I'd be in full agreement and advocating for preservation at any cost. But the reality is we're talking about a green cladded shoebox with little aesthetic value (subjectively of course). There's a distinction to be made between old and historical. In other words old doesn't equal historical. In this case the PET Terminal has undergone a patchwork of updates over the years and has simply become dated, uninspired and ugly. I just can't find the value, but hey that's just me . -

I am also looking forward to this facelift / expansion / improvement. As someone who has a sense of civic pride, I've always found aspects of YUL to be an embarrassment as a gateway to our city. A major city. When I look around at the dated and inadequate infrastructure, the poor maintenance in certain areas of the terminal, the utilitarian aesthetic, I can't help but think that my home airport is "mickey mouse". Even aspects of YUL's branding lacks attention to detail and looks amateurish. As a frequent flyer, I constantly compare YUL to other major (and minor) airports that I visit across NA. And while no airport is perfect, when I'm in Toronto or Vancouver these terminals have a distinctly different feel. One that tells me I'm at a major airport serving a major international city. Even smaller airports such as Halifax, Ottawa, St John's and even Quebec City, seem more sophisticated and modern than YUL. It's long past time this airport is brought up to date and I was very pleased to finally see this announcement. I only hope the airport authority executes with vision and ambition. -

That's one aspect I found disappointing from the renders 😉 -
2.2M + for July 2023... Fair to assume that was the busiest month in YUL's history.

Have your say... ADM launches a public consultation to imagine tomorrow's airport https://m.facebook.com/100064307274666/posts/6072805346161820/?d=n&mibextid=qC1gEa -

It's all about perspective... Maybe it's iconic to some Montrealers, but to travellers arriving from all over the world, I can't help but feel that it's seen as incredibly dated. Personally I'd be happy to see it go. -

The bar is low... very low. I wish there was more political will to be better in this regard. As a frequent business traveler, I don't fully agree with this statement. There was a period where this was the case, but I feel things are returning to normal. That's not to say that there isn't room for significant improvement. My general feeling toward YUL when I compare it to other major (and minor) airports in Canada and the US is that it's pretty "mickey mouse". Claustrophobic waiting areas (esp domestically), limited food options, run down and tired looking infrastructure, inadequate rest room facilities, etc. With passenger traffic levels returning to pre-pandemic levels, it's my sincere hope that the expansion plans announced back in 2018 (2019 maybe?) are put back into motion. -
These stats are encouraging. I've travelled to the west coast twice in the last month. On both occasions, the wide bodies I flew on out of YUL were full or close to it. The domestic terminals at both ends (YVR & YUL) were very active at my arrival and departure times. I agree the masks can be cumbersome on long flights, but for me anyway, not a deal breaker for travel. Just happy to be out an about again

The Skytrain in Vancouver employs this method which discourages graffiti and (although not the best example in this particular photo) "beautifies" the concrete pillars. But I do agree with some of the previous posters, the REM would likely impact R-L negatively.

Hello, 1st post from a long time browser of this forum. Allow me to open with the standard "Apologies if this has already been discussed" statement My question; is it unusual that a project of this scale doesn't seem to have an official website or marketing initiative prior to breaking ground? I recall seeing many promoted posts in my various social media timelines related to the Maestria, Victoria, and Phillips Square projects seemingly well in advance of construction. Thanks is advance.
