  1. Valerie Plante is the result of two egotistical politicians running an election to the ground. She hasn't benefited the city except for bike lanes. During her last 4 years housing prices skyrocketed despite championing affordable housing. 20/20/20 rule doesnt fix the issue, it only exacerbates it. You want Montreal to have more affordable housing? Allow taller/denser residential buildings. Im not talking about 500m buildings, im talking about letting people build 4-6plex buildings in places of triplexes and duplexes. The argument can go that the city cannot handle such density but with density comes more transit users, more tax revenue and therefore more funds allocated to improving the transit systems to support such a populations. Except no, Plante wants to impose 20/20/20, contest developers, and restrict supply.
  2. My question is why can we allow buildings of this magnitude to appear. I know the protection of the Mont Royal is important, but wouldn't it be better to have taller buildings instead of this thick building basically covering multiple viewpoints. I feel like the height limit is a tad redundant if these buildings still block the views.
  3. Honestly the view from the mountain is already ruined, Make it 300m
  4. Hey, well at least you can see the church spire from this angle!
  5. Hopefully redo-ing the piping, bike paths, the sidewalks on that street. Needs a little TLC in my honest opinion.
  6. Sure, but I've seen many short buildings with terrible street level integration. You can still build high and have street level integration. What I think would work there is a another Concordia campus building at the bottom of the tower, maybe offices midlevel and rentals at the top.
  7. I think the curved facades gives off a slight hint of Art Deco. I know it's still a glass tower but I think it will improve the surrounding area. The back of the Hudson's Bay is surrounded by drab, boring, concrete blocks, this will lighten it up a bit. Also, it will bring much needed renovations to the Hudson's Bay facade.
  8. Honestly, I wish it was taller. It is a beautiful design and will standout in the sea of ordinary brutalist towers.
  9. Rene Levesque is not a pretty street in the first place. So if there was an elevated rail line on it I would remain indifferent. With that being said, logically I would still put the REM station underground on Rene Levesque so that the connection with the REM A would be more fluid and direct. I'm just glad that this train line might be built.
  10. So I remember they tested the XE40 last year. What ever happened with that bus? Didn't they order 30?
  11. Ouufff, no thank you. It barely fits with the surrounding architecture. Frustratingly, Old Montreal real estate can afford better architecture, so why is this developer building this horrifyingly ugly building? No idea, but I hope it gets rejected. And this is coming from a Yimbyist.
  12. I think it fits well with the CHUM buildings, some may say its boring but I think overall it isn't ugly.
  13. René–Levesque is already ugly as a boulevard in the first place. If anything if they build this with maybe even a bike lane below this, it would be a win–win.
  14. Its now all gone, this was taken on November 10th.
  15. So Concordia student here, the post modern exterior is awful, but the interior recently got renovated and it is absolutely wonderful. That being said I don't think Concordia wants to invest into redoing the exterior facade until it is absolutely necessary.
  16. I hope its not just the bricks, because the bricks are probably the only nice aspect of the building. At this point they should just turn it into a boring glass box and move on.
