  1. These pictures were taken mostly around old Montreal and McGill College
  3. I just opened the site, and this tower would be in Toronto. However, I found another render of the 1037 rue Bleury, And on the site, it is written that the 1037 rue Bleury is a "projet en cours".
  4. I totally agree with Heritage Montreal this time. We absolutely mustn't demolish such a building. I'd even say I'm even agains't adding something on top of it, because it will be much taller than it surroundings. I myself am against that arguments most of the time, for example the argument that hydro-quebec building in the quartier des spectacles (as well as some other projects) are too tall has just got no sense to me, because the projects are situated in non historic districts that are relatively mixed architecturally (there are a lot of buildings style and the height is not uniform). However in that case, it's completely different, in addition of being in proximity to the mont-royal. So I support Heritage Montreal, and think they are totally right on that issue. But in the case they let them demolish the building, which they shouldn't do, I'd prefer that they don't include elements that reflects the building because it end up looking just horrible (hotel St. Martin comes to mind immediately). They should have included the buildings in the Seville project too, the whole would have looked look much better and much more urban than replacing it with a single podium. However in the case of the redpath mansion, I think they should just renovate the interior and sell it as a single house, I don't see what's so hard in doing so. Of course, they won't get as much money, and the developer won't be as satisfied, but I think keeping the heritage of Montreal and the general feel of the golden square mile intact is more important.
  5. In my opinion, this is one of the worst building that has been built during this decade in Montreal. I think it just look horrible, it looks like the commie blocks that used to get built in the 1960's in Montreal. Sure it looks like its ugly neighbours (that's the only thing OCPM wants, they don't care about the rest), but I don't find the result nice. The problem with Beaux-arts tower is not that it has been built near victorian houses, well not for me. The real one is how it looks, the design. I even find the contrast created by the juxtaposition of old and new quite interesting, only if the new building is looking as nice as the old ones, and in that case (the one rejected by the OCPM), it is.

    Monocle: Munich

    Moi aussi.
