  1. Wasn’t it mentioned during the announcement of the airport terminal expansion that this summer several overseas flights this summer would have to be regularly remotely parked due to lack of gates? Air Canada is pushing growth here and the airport is trying to cope, so yes it is getting much busier. The whole $2 billion terminal/concourse expansion plan is a direct result of this.
  2. Throw in a hockey/skating rink in winter...?
  3. Some more detail. 1981 McGill College
  4. Well major city (outside Asia) could mean many things. Major world city (New York/Paris level) is only a handful. Major in term of population could mean dozens more. Major in term of actual market potential much less.
  5. In my opinion São Paulo would be one of the most important missing routes needed to be filled at YUL. Other than Lima we have no direct connections to South America which is becoming increasingly important economically for Canada. We need to lessen our dependance in the US and strengthen ties to other major powers. Brazil has its issues but that link is one of the critical links all major airports have around the world. It needs to be part of our network. Fingers crossed.
  6. Vancouver really does generate a lot of its numbers from Pacific bound travel. If you took that out including those using it as s connecting hub from the US and the rest of Canada my guess is it would be more like Montreal.. perhaps even less since it’s and end point in the country.
  7. True but Paris or The Rocky Mountains is a harder choice. There’s a lot of beauty in Canada too, it’s not all about cities just like France isn’t all about Paris.
  8. All this sounds encouraging. My gut says we’ll still be looking at at Hong Kong or a 4th Chinese route over the long term rather than within the next 2-3 years. It’s heading in the right direction though... one more reason for the airport expansion.
  9. Come on guys. Enjoy the moment. This is all great news, let’s not dwell on what ifs. New Yorkers and Torontonians would be asking if it’s enough not if it’s too much and you know we should be too. Why isn’t cargo brought back from Mirabel? Why is there no internal monorail to get people between the farthest piers? Why is the US concourse not expanded? Why isn’t the current 1960s main terminal not being updated or replaced with a more efficient layout? We should be more demanding not less. It’s what pushes societies forward and makes them leading cities in the world. I want Montreal & YUL to take back top spot Canada and this is as good a start as any to begin.
  10. You kinda have to look at this project like you do mutual funds. There will be good years and bad years but you continue to grow your investment regardless. Sure you make small adjustments to accomodate the down periods but over the long haul there will be continued growth as the population rises naturally. It’s been said many times YUL is roughly the same physical size as Heathtow and they have what, 60 or 70 million pax a year going through there. In 30 years or more these facilities can be expanded or adapted or yet another new terminal can be added if needed. Or if it’s much slower all this can be implemented slower or in less parts. Either way it’s better to invest in the future than be caught trying to catch up.
  11. Lol. Phew.. I’ll breath now:-). Maybe if we repeat it enough times the ADM will get one on order. But seriously, that walk...
  12. Looking at the new layout.. It’s not mentioned but I’d hope there’s an internal monorail to get people from the far ends of the new piers to the far ends of the current ones. That will be a long walk for anyone connecting between them. A monorail would also quickly get people from the REM station to the heart of the new terminal.
  13. Well I can’t argue against that. Heritage is rarely kept at airports. hopefully it all integrates with the updated modern style well in the end.
  14. I guess this is the biggest question, is it a terminal or not? They said “terminal” but on appearance it could be or it could just be a jetty. It looks big enough to have check in areas and customs facilities...without a main entrance or separate parking. It’ll all become clear soon enough I guess. Love these types of problems lol. I’m fine with either.
  15. The Gazette article mentions some investment in the cargo facilities at Mirabel as well.
  16. Looks awesome. It doesn’t appear to be a new terminal in the conventional sense rather a new jetty or series of jetties. Access seems to be through the current main entrance albeit enlarged and modernized. I’m curious if it will have its own customs & immigration processing. I hope they reclad the old 1960s façade of the current terminal or modernize it somewhat. Overall though it looks incredible.. a huge expandion.
  17. This is all such awesome news. These are things I’ve been waiting a lifetime for
  18. What I recall being discussed is: Permanent closure of runway 28 elimination of the old regional aeroquay a new mid field international terminal A renewed and enlarged domestic wing recladding of the current main terminal it would be nice as a spotter to see all cargo operations moved back to YUL but with operating time contraints I doubt that will happen... I don’t know how many flights or what % really arrive or depart between 1am and 7am. I suspect very few.
  19. Actually much quicker than I imagined. Next we need a new terminal and then hopefully the start of more distant foreign carriers trying to get in here. Regardless we’ve had a few great years of growth and additions.
  20. 20 million would be a milestone for sure. Fingers crossed
  21. Nice to see the Windsor nonstops. And with a CRJ no less. A while back I used to fly to Windsor quite regularly connecting to AC’s Dash-8 flights from YYZ.. there were always a large number of Montrealers on those flights so I’m expecting this route to do well.
  22. This is encouraging news. I hope we can sustain this growth for a while and move up in ranking relative to our competitor cities. Seeing both US and International growth in double digits I wonder how much on an increase YUL is getting in US transit passengers heading to Europe or Asia.
