  1. Is there a potential Phase 6 and 7? I see two other buildings.
  2. It's not necessarily a negative comment - I just wanted to know what the progress was. I own a condo in the building across the street, so I am following the development of this project with interest. Do you know when Phase 4 and 5 are expected to be completed? 3. So they haven't started construction on phase 4 and 5 yet?
  4. It is depressingly similar to Le Seville project- Prevel is super-cheap. They aren't inspired by architecture or design quality..they do the minimum they can get away with to make money.
  5. No I still think it's a mistake to abuse this wonderful open space by filling part of it with a modern building - incongruent among the historical architecture that surrounds it and gratituous/ unnecessary. I believe a public square / garden would be much more impressive and enjoyed by locals and tourists alike and it's what is needed with the residential development of old Montreal. There's a good film on urban design and the mistakes of the past and how to design for human beings called "The Human Scale" - it is available on Netflix.
  8. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bay_Lights http://www.mercurynews.com/news/ci_25275213/bay-bridge-lights-act-2-sculpture-shine Hydo Quebec and various other qc companies could pay for it.. like thecae desjardins towers..it could be an iconic green color..or hydro quebec blue or better yet, programmable multicolour LEDs that make it a tourist attraction: I think the wiki page says the Bay Bridge has brought in $100m tourism dollars and cost $8m. Coderre are you listening?
  12. I had another thought.. what about a greenhouse!? It seems the design requires light to transmit down into the museum below the ground level. What about a greenhouse whose form echoes the form of market or parliament building that lay there before.. like a ghost and at the same time, has a green function and a nice function in the winter! I am reluctant to support the contraction of a building in the space but a greenhouse / glass house would be pretty darn cool. And due to its transparency and reflectivity would not impose upon the space like a solid building. A greenhouse / exhibition house surrounded by a hedge on the periphery and trees and bushes.. a nice french-style garden / park and of course a fountain at the McGill end... perhaps France would be so kind as to donate another one for Montreal 375, like the one in Quebec.
  13. I am so disturbed to see the plans for a building in this lovely space of Place Youville. Originally, the plans were simply for an urban garden. The pavilion absolutely destroys the wonderful space that exists without a building. I live across the street on William and I pass the space every day. My ideal design would be a large open public square / garden / dog park with trees and a fountain and perhaps some sculpture or landscape architectural features. Seriously, open spaces are wonderful, peaceful, zen, spiritual places, the feng shui is invaluable- we just needed some grass there, some trees and some landscaping. You can have whatever you want as part of the museum underneath and perhaps a discreet smaller entrance on the top, but not a whole big building - to me that is very much incongruous and disturbing of the space, regardless of the architecture of the building, it destroys / interrupts the lovely open space. I thought there was a movement with the public consultation in Old Montreal to make Montreal less touristy and reserve more spaces to appeal to residents -ie) make it an urban park as originally designed! Please do not add a pavilion to it! A modern building does not fit in this space - and it blocks the lovely old firehouse! It's a colossal mistake to add a modern building here- who did they hire to come up with this insensitive design? Are they going to have public consultations with the residents? I think we should petition to have a large park here for locals and tourists a like (they can eat lunch outside etc) with say a commemorative classical fountain - like in Quebec city..if you want to spend money spend it on that and have the tourist side discreet underneath..that has more class. What do you think about my point of view on this? Can you imagine how wonderful a large open green space with trees and a foundation would be? a park for residents of old Montreal? with a more discreet entrance to the museum? What is the purpose of a large entrance building?
