Defeatist attitude. We decided that didn't want the Canadian establishment in this city and that Toronto is a more appropriate home.

Aim high brother. Enough of this mediocre non-sense, we're better than this.

Aim Big ?  Yes, that is what I am saying.  Let's aim for the world, not just for Canada.

Canada already chose Toronto as its champion, they don't want Montréal (too French, among other things).  We are the leader in Artificial Intelligence, but we have to share federal investments with Toronto (until they take the first place, then the goal would be to consolidate all our eggs in the Toronto basket).  Montréal was a choice as legitimate as Toronto for the BIC, but it wasn't seriously considered by Ottawa (or rather by people from Toronto, who are pulling the strings).  The canadian perception is that Toronto is the real champion and Montréal is, at best, a regional player (and should be more than that).  In that mindset, the role of Montréal is to contribuate to the higher successes of Toronto, to be a vassal city to its lord.  Let's not waste time and ressource to try to change this perception.  It would be a better use of those resssources to use them to improve things here and to advertize it internationnaly.  I don't think aiming at the world instead of aiming at Canada is a defeating attirude.

Montreal is on an upswing and will continue since the younger generations are more aware of the world and how it works. MTL is already an International city and we're attracting billions in investments. Political stability is at its strongest, so is confidence in the city. Sure the city has regulations, some can argue over-regulated, but QOL is one of the best in the world, we don't have rampant poverty like successful cities in the U.S or increasing class segregation like in Toronto. This is the only city where I see people actually enjoy life. I lived in Toronto and Miami, both cities are too expensive, too divided and only drive on foreign buyers (Miami has a fake economy) T.O will always be #1 in Canada, so MTL has and will focus more International.

Toronto became the real champion when all of our major HQs moved there (Molson/Bell included) and a significant brain drain from Montreal led institution went down to 401.  You're talking hundreds of thousands of people. Anglos/Allos and Franco (CEO of Banque Lauretienne is a Quebecois living in Toronto)

Toronto has policies that are open to the world. Can you say the same about Montreal.

Honestly the victim complex really makes me sick. The decisions we've made as a society (language/taxes/regulation/sovereignty/immigration) are the reason why we are a regional player trying to crawl out of the hole we've created for ourselves.

the issue now is not whether Montreal is back on the right track. It's if we are continuing to lose ground vs. Toronto. With Toronto so close, we continue to lose businesses/talent/opportunity. It's a huge magnet. We need to reverse this. It's nice that we as Quebec are "aiming the world" (whatever that means) - but this is a fundamental competitive dynamic that must be solved.

The victim complex makes you sick, yet you play that exact game whining about Montreal ever losing ground to To. This getting pathological. Hope you can find a cure.

Jeez... This again... It's crazy how you guys have this obsession with Toronto... What's up with comparing sizes all the time?? Can we please get back to the topic of this thread, which is about the new powers given to the city of Montréal by the Québec government!

Retour au sujet: J'espère vraiment qu'ils vont utiliser leurs nouveaux pouvoirs pour forcer l'inclusion de grands logements dans les projets résidentiels!

Yep right , stop comparing with Toronto.

What we need for Montreal is 5 1/2 for families.  Hopefuly Prevel is one of builders that offering apartement with 3 bedroom.

I approved Valerie Plante vision to kept families in Montreal. If we look in the past there was a program called operations 20 000 logements to help families staying in Montreal.  Une idée de Yvon Lamarre predisent du comité executif c'est aussi grace a lui que l'on a conservé le canal Lachine.

Agreed to your point mark_ac wherever we go on the planet the countries are doing business primary with theirs neighbours.

Mexico is a spanish speaking country and they are doing a lot of business with USA.

We got no choice we have to do business with the USA.

The major point agaisnt Quebec wasn't the language but the idea of separatism.  Once this idea is out the minds. La Confiance revient.
