Permettez-moi de mettre certaines choses en perspective: l'ensemble du Parc Olympique a couté 1milliard et demi. On ne parle pas seulement du stade mais bien de tout le quadrilatère en surface et en sous-sol, tour incluse. Nous héritons, pour cette somme, d'infrastructures majeures qui comme tous les bâtiments importants, ont besoin d'entretien et de mises à niveau ponctuelles. Le stade, entre autre, nous offre la possibilité d'aller chercher des événements sportifs de haut calibre et aux retombées fort intéressantes. Sans compter d'autres événements commerciaux de grande envergure qui ne pourraient avoir lieu ailleurs. Le fait que le toit ait atteint sa fin de vie, suppose aussi qu'éventuellement on devra le remplacer.

 

Restera à trouver la formule idéale, publique, privée, ou les deux, commandites, une taxe spéciale sur certains produits de luxe bien ciblés ou le tabac, ou que sais-je? Je continue de penser que c'est un investissement à long terme qui pourrait peut-être aussi s'autofinancer par des revenus globaux sur l'ensemble du site, ou une taxe modeste sur les chambres d'hôtels, ou une portion de chacune de ces formules? Je lance des idées car je crois que Montréal et le Québec peuvent se permettre, comme toute société moderne, des infrastructures de qualité supérieure et trouver le financement adéquat pour leur pérennité.

 

Maintenant je compare le cout de ce parc immense qui représente un véritable actif pour la ville, avec le cout du G20 à Toronto en 2010. http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sommet_du_G20_2010_%28Canada%29 On parle ici d'un milliard de dollars totalement gaspillé et dont il ne subsiste absolument rien de concret, sinon des procès en justice, un scandale financier et politique, et une démonstration de forces policières dignes des plus beaux régimes totalitaires.

 

Alors qu'on ne vienne pas nous dire ce qui est bon pour nous et quel choix nous devrions faire pour l'avenir de ce site extraordinaire. Le Québec est une société distincte, aux valeurs particulières et inclusives, qui accueille chaleureusement et sans discrimination, tous ceux qui choisissent de partager son destin. Nous sommes aussi une nation ouverte sur le monde, démocratique et au savoir-faire indéniable. Nous avons organisé avec succès les deux événements les plus importants de la planète, et avons reçu honorablement les visiteurs du monde entier.

 

Maintenant nous voulons poursuivre cette mission, en mettant à profit les legs de ces deux événements internationaux, et partager cet héritage avec tous ceux qui le souhaitent, montréalais et touristes. Nous avons un produit de très haute valeur, grandement diversifié et qui gagnera beaucoup à être plus connu. Ce site est une vitrine de nos connaissances, un lieux de divertissement exceptionnel et un cadre enchanteur, autant pour le plaisir des sens, que pour toutes sortes d'activités intérieures et extérieures, en famille, en groupe ou entre amis.

 

Ce pôle touristique, dont fait partie intégrante le Parc Olympique, le splendide Jardin Botanique et l'immense parc Maisonneuve, avec les deux stations de métro qui les desservent, de même que toutes les autres infrastructures trop longues à énumérer ici, représentent des milliards de dollars en investissement. L'ensemble de ces infrastructures pourraient à leur tour en rapporter tout autant sur toute leur durée de vie. Il est donc normal qu'on accorde à toutes ses composantes l'importance qu'elles méritent, et que nous soyons fiers de présenter au monde, un complexe récréo-touristique grandiose et tout à fait unique en son genre.

The Gazette est le porte-voix d'un empire médiatique anglophone contrôlé à partir de Toronto. Ils n'ont donc aucun intérêt dans le bien-être de Montréal, ni vis à vis de sa communauté.

Bucket... I, for one, never said that no one at the Gazette cares about the community. There are some excellent journalists there who know the city well and love it. However, the editorial control of the Gazette left Montreal some time ago and it shows. I have been in this city for a long time and I remember too well the paternalistic attitude of my fellow Anglos, not just towards the French-speakers although that was probably the worst, but also to the Italians, the Greeks and the Jews. That attitude still resurfaces and I can smell it from a mile way. Just read Marty`s disdainful dismissal of his neighbours` culture.

 

It surfaces , in my view around on the attitude towards the Olympic stadium. Ranting and raving about the costs incurred is really not very helpful... to anybody. Blow it up!! Yeah, great solution. These suggestions do not reflect serious thought; they spring out of a deep, dismissive distrust. Architecturally, the stadium is ten times more impressive than the CN tower. yet it has never reached its potential as an iconic statement . That potential is still there, and I agree it should be pursued. And you can bet, the people in Toronto who own the Gazette, do not want Montreal to overtake them in any sphere of activity...and where we are ahead of Toronto, they will deliberately ignore it.

mont royal thank you for your understanding, you have a clear and honnest view of what's going on. And that proves me that there are also many anglos with real good faith. Mind you I never had doubts since I have good friends among them also. But unfortunately most of those keep a too low profile. Actually we should all have that openess, from both sides, but emotions too often take over and some currently mix politic with everything else. My criticism towards The Gazette is meant to denounce that kind of paternalistic attitude that keeps going on. We feel pretty well the Torontonian source, and it does indeed pollute the rest of the paper. That is why I tend to reject it and some other publications (MacLeans, National Post etc), because here on this forum, their negative views are constantly presented as the plain truth.

 

No one is stupid. When someone keeps repeating the same negative comments, his intention ends up showing clearly, it is then perceived like an agression, by most of us. We as quebecers, never tell anyone elsewhere in the country how they should manage their business, and what they should do with their assets. We also do not envy anyone else, they are what they are and we are what we are, whether it pleases or not. We are a distinct nation, in the sense of different and unique in North America, we then have the challenge to protect our survival and perpetuate our existence, language and culture on this continent. If we do not do it, who will? Something probably not so obvious for many.

 

Unfortunately there will always be narrowminded people everywhere and there is no law to impose respect. It's then up to each individual to recognise the value of others and share their best feelings with everyone. Because above all our differences, we are all human beings expecting peace and happiness. Like we say: "what you sow, you shall reap". So we should live and let live. Earth is full of different nations, each contributing to the beauty and diversity of our world. No-one is above the others, each one has the right to be and evolve freely according to their aspirations and dreams.

 

Montréal is unique in it's personnality, we are not trying to imitate any other city, but be completely ourselves. Neither are we jealous of any other place, and certainly not competing to prove a kind of superiority. We know our values and we have developped our own goals. We will then follow up our objectives straightforward and continue doing what we do best: being a friendly city, part of a friendly nation, widely opened to the world and using all means to express it.

Montréal s’effrite et certaines de ses infrastructures tombent en ruine. Il n’y a qu’à penser à son réseau d’aqueducs, à ses viaducs et au pont Champlain pour s’en convaincre. À cette liste qui donne froid dans le dos, ajoutons l’incontournable et controversé Stade olympique, symbole triste et grandiose de cette ville, et qui célèbrera bientôt ses quarante ans. Mais y a-t-il de quoi fêter, avec toutes les dépenses engagées pour son entretien depuis sa construction, et la saga du toit et de sa toile, qui n’en finit plus de se dégrader et qu’on songe encore à remplacer? Rencontre exclusive, menée par Benoît Dutrizac, avec le seul et unique Roger Taillibert et son bras droit de l’époque, Claude Phaneuf, respectivement architecte et ingénieur principal du Stade. Les deux persistent et signent, blâmant la RIO dans cette saga, se disant victimes de désinformation pour expliquer ce dérapage qui choque encore l’opinion publique, et dont ils ne sont, jurent-ils, nullement responsables.
