qwerty Posté(e) 8 mai 2017 Partager Posté(e) 8 mai 2017 Jesus, back to language laws again...
peekay Posté(e) 8 mai 2017 Partager Posté(e) 8 mai 2017 I wonder if Chicago or LA would've acted like this if a major federal institution would've set up shop in New York. Why the anger? Toronto is Canada's financial capital. There is not much left to say. There is no ulterior motive. It is what it is. It has nothing to do with French or English. andre md Posté(e) 8 mai 2017 Partager Posté(e) 8 mai 2017 Toronto will win everytime because of demography. Political power come with it. We could do the same getting as much immigrant than Toronto. We have the tools for it. Higher vacancy rate , bigger rental market , lower real estate prices , bilingual city then we could attract a bigger pool of immigrants. The studies about immigrants prove that they are more entrepreneur, willing to push their kids to have a higher scolarship etc... I don't blame canada for this. This was an easy decision - Toronto's finance sector is so much more capitalized than Montreal's. It would have only a political decision to make it in Montreal. Soyons-honnete avec nous memes, we would be kidding ourselves if we thought otherwise. Well, it is not really a loss because it wasn't here before... If it was a no brainer that it would be given to Toronto, why do you complain? To each its strenghs, and Toronto's strengh is to be Canada's teacher's pet. There is nothing we can change in that (unless maybe, just maybe, if we were to change who we are completally, but that would be too high a price). We still manage to get the other (less prestigious) institute. Let's built on that, but we should never count on Ottawa to put Montréal in the forefront. For the canadian establishment, Québec (and Montréal) is just there to help push Toronto forward and to serve as scapegoat when something goes wrong. We need to count on ourselves to grow. Being under the Canadian can help us to grow, but we need to remember to pick the fruits ourselves, not wait for the tree to give them to us, the tree prefering to give the fruits to Toronto.

Then it was absolutely pointless to vote for the Liberals at the latest election. Everybody praised "welcome back Quebec" "finally, separatism is dead" "finally Quebec is back and open for business". Montreal is no longer politically relevant, yet, "we" elected this country's Prime Minister and 4 other high rank MPs, yet, they probably, all of them, already forgot about who voted for them and where their vote came from. Liberal party lost my vote today and lost my contribution, as a monthly donor, as well.

qwerty Posté(e) 9 mai 2017 Partager Posté(e) 9 mai 2017 This bank could have been in Winnipeg, Ottawa, whatever... This is public money that will match private capital (like La Caisse, CPP, etc.). It will generate business in engineering firms (mostly in Mtl). While it would have been nice to get it, all they will do is "chip in" (facilitate) minority stake into the several infrastructure projects that will go up across the country. Will they be leading such projects? Let's see but I think they will simply jump into the band wagon to help pushing the projects. If you are the PLC and want to win next election, you need to give something to Bay Street. Worst, not giving them such an institution would have lowered the PLC rating in Ontario. PLC needs to win Ontario and Qc for next election but Ontario is more important as it has more seats. Obviously, it is needless to say that Bay Street has its say in federal election within Ontario at least. La Caisse & PSP are both much bigger and much more active (investment wise) than this new institution. Both are fully based in Mtl and has no issue doing business. The bank could have prospered here without any issue from a capital / business perspective. It is not something against the mood of business in Mtl, it is rather a politic matter. Again, I would have much happier to get this than not getting it... Now let's see what this is going to be. 3 Citer Lien vers le commentaire Partager sur d’autres sites
