China's flag carrier Air China (CA) has filed an application with the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) to launch a nonstop international service between Shanghai Pudong and Montreal starting September, 2016, according to an announcement released Tuesday on the official website of CAAC.

 

Pending government approval, the Beijing-based carrier will fly its Boeing 777-300 aircraft on the Shanghai Pudong-Montreal route starting next September, with seven flights weekly.

 

The Air Transportation Department of CAAC is soliciting public comments on the application until Dec. 30, 2015.

But isn't Shanghai PVG a MU (China Eastern) Hub ???

Excellente nouvelle. Cependant je voudrais bien qu'AC prenne sa place dans le ciel montréalais sur cette route. Car ce serait plus d'emplois pour nos employés canadiens et surtout pour la base de Montréal. Je n'en ferais pas cependant une condition, car il faut du temps pour développer un marché, et Air China a peut-être plus de motivation à agir, que notre transporteur national?

Shanghai est le hub de China Eastern. Cependant, China Estern n'a pas investi largement dans ses liaisons long-courriers. Hainan et Air China se font la guerre afin de combler ces liaisons inexploitées à partir de Shanghai.

PVG is indeed MU's hub.

However, based on the flights out of this airport by CA, it does not seem that it prevents CA from developing international routes out of the airport.

In fact, it serves CDG, MEL, SYD, NRT, TPE, FRA and MUC already out of PVG.

 

Additionally, some people are saying that this route will be served by the B787-9 instead of the B777-300ER, once CA starts receiving them in 2016.

D'après ce que j'avais lu plus tôt dans l'année, Air Canada avait comme objectif de mettre en place un vol entre PVG et YUL, au plus tard en 2018.

Alors, c'est possible qu'Air China ait eu une plus grande volonté à cet égard, puisqu'il compte offrir ce vol dès l'année prochaine.

There's a route / designation war in China. There's only airline/route policy in effect.

 

So China Eastern has SFO, LAX, YVR ORD, YYZ, JFK

Air China has nothing

Hainan has BOS, SEA

 

I should have been more precised with my previous post.

CDG, MEL, SYD, NRT, TPE, FRA are both served by Air China and China Eastern Airlines from PVG. Therefore, there are exceptions that are made.

I do not know what the criteria and conditions are to qualify for a such exception.

However, this shows that Air China could possibly serve destinations that other Chinese carrier already flies to.

The article says that the route will be served by 7 weekly flights.

 

I thought YUL-PEK had more demand, so I'm guessing they will up it to daily?

J'ai lu la même chose ce que Mark mentionne. Ils veulent s'emparer des droits sur la route avant Chine Eastern et Hainan, même si ça semble prématuré pas à peu près.

 

Air China a peut-être de l'info que les autres ne possèdent pas...

 

On verra leurs réels intentions dans les prochains mois (ils perdent leur droit après 12 mois si non utilisé)
