J'ai vraiment hâte de voir la réaction du gouvernement Trudeau face à cette décision. Il a dit que l'achat de 18 SuperHornet serait compromise si la décision était défavorable à Bombardier, et bien qu'il le prouve.

Comparer avec la réaction du gouvernement de Theresa May (Royaume-Uni).  La-bas, l'impact est surtout ressenti en Irlande du Nord  (Short Brothers PLC, une filiale de Bombardier); or, par un de ces hasards, le gouvernement conservateur de madame May a besoin de l'appui du Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) et de ses dix sièges pour se maintenir au pouvoir.

J'aime bien ce fait interessant. 

(En 1978, alors que la société Airbus se heurte à d'insurmontables difficultés pour pénétrer un marché américain ultra protectionniste, Eastern Airlines bénéficie d'un prêt d'appareil gratuit (A-300) pendant une période de 6 mois. Très satisfait à l'issue de cette période probatoire, Eastern Airlines concrétise l'achat de 23 A-300. La réputation du PDG de la compagnie (Frank Borman) et le fait qu'on ne puisse remettre en cause son patriotisme, permirent à Airbus de vendre des appareils à d'autres compagnies aux USA.

En 1985, la concurrence acharnée d'autres compagnies, notamment Continental Airlines, font débuter un cycle infernal de réductions de coûts, suivies de grèves, et ainsi de suite. Après de longues difficultés financières et une banqueroute déclarée dès 1989, Eastern Air Lines cessa officiellement son activité le 18 janvier 1991. Semaine noire pour Bombardier qui encaisse 2 de menaces sur ses 2 portefeuilles clés en simultanée. Idem pour Alstom qui après s'être fait brader sa fabrique de turbines est désormais entièrement dépecé par le gvt Macron. Je me suis tjr fait à l'idée que Bombardier était une entreprise internationale plus que quebecoise et accusait même du retard sur les marchés de la province: aucune ligne/train Grande Vitesse, pas de tram, sous développement du tout électrique au profit de motrices diesel. Déjà, ils ont du boulot au Quebec

Airbus & Bombardier to partner on CSeries; build aircraft in Alabama

Airbus and Bombardier are forming a partnership that will see both manufacturers build and market the CSeries narrowbody, with plans to create a second final assembly line in the US.

The stunning announcement, made Oct. 16, will see Airbus own a 50.01% share in the CSeries Aircraft Limited Partnership (CSALP), which manufactures and sells the CSeries, while Bombardier will own 31% and Investissement Quebec will own 19%.

Airbus said it will provide procurement, sales and marketing, and customer support expertise.

Primary CSeries assembly will remain in Quebec, Canada, while a second final assembly line would be established at Airbus’ facility in Mobile, Alabama, where Airbus now produces A320s for US airline customers.

Airbus said it sees a market for more than 6,000 new aircraft in the 100-150 seat segment over the next 20 years.

“The agreement brings together Airbus’ global reach and scale with Bombardier’s newest, state-of-the-art jet aircraft family, positioning both partners to fully unlock the value of the CSeries platform and create significant new value for customers, suppliers, employees and shareholders,“ Airbus said.

In a press conference call late Monday, Airbus CEO Tom Enders said discussions with Bombardier started in August and “moved fast.”

The deal adds a twist to the ongoing dispute between Boeing and Bombardier over the CSeries. Boeing filed a complaint with the US Commerce Department alleging financial help from the Canadian federal and Quebec provincial governments enabled Bombardier to sell the aircraft to Delta Air Lines at an “absurdly low price.” Initial rulings issued by the Commerce Department in late September and early October recommended US airlines that buy the CSeries should pay as much as 300% in import duties, a tariff that Delta CEO Ed Bastian has said the airline will not pay.

Enders said in Monday’s press conference that the decision to partner on the CSeries was “not motivated by anything that competitors are doing, but by a recognition that the stars were all aligned this time.”

Enders and Bombardier president and CEO Alain Bellemare later acknowledged, however, that under current rules, aircraft that are assembled in a US facility are not subject to US duties.

“But it’s more strategic than that; it’s a very good move to bring this aircraft to the US because the US is the single largest market for this segment,” Enders said. He pointed out that Airbus has not sold any of the smallest of its narrowbody product line, the A319, since 2012. “So there’s no competition; [the CSeries] fits ideally with the [Airbus narrowbody] upper range, the A320 and A321.”

While the executives did not give any timelines for when the first CSeries could roll off the Mobile final assembly line, Bellemare said Delta “loves the aircraft” and was willing to wait while “the right solution” was found.

Il fallait que Bombardier trouve une solution rapidement, il saignait du cash dangereusement si je me fis aux articles que j'ai lus ces derniers jours.  Bombardier était dans les cables.  Je trouve cet arrangement nécessaire et porteur de nouvelles opportunités.  Ouf!

I bet Boeing's legal team furious that Bombardier got around their hissy fit, with this new partnership. I am going to get that the US commerce dept will close this right away. 

On another note, I wonder if Trudeau will now work with Boeing to get new fighter jets or work with another company to get new fighter jets.

The best outcome possible considering the current status of affairs with the CSeries.

This simplifies several things. The rest of the business, which is profitable, will be allowed to prosper better without the focus and redirection of cash and ressources on the CSeries.

You go back 20 years in time BBD was a fast growing company. They have been stalled since Sept. 11th, 2001... It used  to be a $20billion + market cap back in the late 90'. The CSeries will live and BBD will have opportunities to grow in Aerospace or else where. McDonnell Douglas was bought out by Boeing, several others went bankrupt, not so many companies have survived the Airbus Boeing duopoly. Coming out of it with a partnership like this was not the initial expectations when they launch the program but considering where they are now... 

Nevertheless, Airbus gets 50% of a thing that cost $6Billion to develop in exchange for an investment of 0$... It is what it is....

On another note, I wonder if Trudeau will now work with Boeing to get new fighter jets or work with another company to get new fighter jets.

If BBD ends up buying back the Qc government shares in the CSeries, what will  be the argument of Boeing? I hope Canada keeps its strong stance against Boeing because this was not justified.
