this area seems to be improving quite a bit with lots of new projects just south of this lot,it still has a long way to go but it's getting there

Sounds good to me. Also what is happening with "La Patrie" next door? It's been surrounded by scaffolding for months. Renovations or something dangerous?

Quand le boulevard Saint-Laurent reprendra vie avec de nouveaux investissements dans ce coin là, j'imagine facilement une forte et intense reconstruction de ce quartier avec des investissements importants. Mais pour l'instant, c'est encore un no man's land entre Ste-Cat. et RL.

C'est une excellente nouvelle! Sainte-Catherine en a bien besoin et ça viendra pousser le développement du secteur avec L'adoption du PPU Quartier Latin!

Cette portion de Ste-Catherine est franchement atroce. Même avec les nouveaux condos et le 2-22 rien n'y fait. Drogués, prostituées, chiens errants, hommes en boisson, mendiants à chaque case de trottoir, sex-shops délabrés, vitrines fracassées, tout y passe et on tolère bien sûr.

The problem is Habitation Jeanne Mance. Imagine if the entire area was transformed into a public park downtown like Parc Lafontaine. Traffic deviated to Ontario in order to remove the stretch of deMaisonneuve running in the middle. Mature trees already in place.

Then - perpendcular - close off Hotel de Ville to traffic and turn it into a pedestrian only street from Old Montreal all the way to Boul Mont-Royal.

 

Watch the investment and renaissance happen. The way it is there - they are creating a void between East Downtown and West Downtown. And yet another between Old Montreal and Le Plateau. A huge public green space would mend the gap. And best, remove the residents that should not be exposed to the 'red-light' district.

Well, if you don't give a shit about the less fortunate and don't like seeing them around, then destroying the home of 1700 residents and kicking them out of the area is going to feel like a really good idea. Believing that this would be for their own good? Man! How about creating a city near Labrador called Béesseville and moving all these people over there, it would be fantastic for Montreal!!

J'espère qu'on aura droit à un immeuble qui s'agence bien avec l'édifice au coin de Sainte-Catherine et Hôtel-de-Ville, c'est-à-dire utilisation de la pierre et pourquoi pas le style Beaux-Arts.
