mark_ac clearly has an agenda and we all know it is bashing everything french-quebecois related. Only the poor guy just got this forum to lash out his frustration. He seems to come from the same mould of those old school 70s anglophones who moved out of the province when the PQ came to power... only he's 40 years behind. Most have moved on. Gosh his life might be miserable as an anglophone oppressed in Quebec.

Was listening to a report on RDI yesterday. They interviewed tourism players in Old Montréal. Some of their comments were: more tourists in Québec City than here, Montreal suffers due to bad news regarding mayoralty problems, the fact that we have a very good product, but do not market it effectively, especially to Americans. Personally I believe that that is the main reason. Few other cities in NA can offer our unique experience and culture. That is what a lot of people are looking for when they travel. Got to get better at getting the message out. Tourism is a very competitive industry.

It’s too early to say if this year’s May-June pattern will continue for July and August, said Tourism Montreal spokesperson Alexandra Graveline.

“It’s a little bit early to do a summary of the season,” Graveline said, adding that the decrease in occupied hotel rooms is “not dramatic” — at least not dramatic enough to cause major concern.

When you look at the bigger picture, the first six months of 2013 actually brought a very slight improvement over the same period in 2012, with the hotel occupation rate up 0.8 per cent.

The city should start by doing something about the homeless and street beggars, they're all over downtown including the metro stations. It's gotten to the point you can't walk 2 blocks without being harassed by these people, the worst are the ones who flop themselves on the sidewalk with their backbacks and pitbull, not a pretty picture for tourists

Le manque total de civisme des Montréalais est un autre grave problème qu'il faut régler au plus sacrant - le Montréalais moyen a une mentalité d'itinérant - il ne prend pas assez soin de son environnement - il ne s'approprie pas assez sa ville

Welcome to every major city in North America. Granted, there are examples of cities that have made some ''progress'' in this area, either by kicking them out or by helping them, but Montreal is still, and even more then before, ridiculously safe for a North American (or even European) large city.
