Plusieurs membres ont posté des photos récentes des années 80 et 90 représentant des endroits disparus maintenant.

Bienvenue sur le forum. Je sens que ta présence va être bonne.

Tres interessant bien sur certains de ces edifices ont laisses la place a de nouveau qui sont devenus des "trade marks de montreal" example Place Ville-Marie mais d'autres ont cedes leur place a des constructions insipides, d'autres enfin ont ete conservees mais comme c'est le cas pour la maison (Bragg, je crois) sise au coin sherbrooke et Cote des Neiges lorsqu'elle a ete renovee apres l' incendie qui l'a lourdement endomagee on a malheureusement omis de remplacer la tour pointue qui la distinguait.

Il pourrait etre interessant quand la possibilite se presente de montrer le montreal qui aurait pu etre les projets qui n'ont jamais vu le jour et qui auraient change la face de la ville ou les edifices qui a votre avis meriteraient le pic des demolisseurs example a mon avis l'affreux edifice rouge coin Saint Denis et Viger qui a servi longtemps et qui sert peut-etre encore d'office pour une centrale syndicale.

The etablishment of the cie generale des bazards at the corner of the main and Ste-catherine.

The J.B. Baillargeon property at the corner of Ste-Catherine and St-Urbain street was sold to H. Kellert and sons in 1910. The Kellert building was then built on this site. It was torn down around 1966 and replaced by Place des arts.

 

View of University from René-Lévesque street. The James club on the left corner was torn down in the 1961 and replace by the place ville-marie.

 

South east corner of Vitre street ( which doesn't exist anymore) and St-Urbain.

 

Theses buildings were torn down in the 1980's. The facades have been rebuilt stone by stone and a new building now stands behind them...

 

The corner of Sherbrooke and Stanley street around 1890 and in 2007. The Van Horne mansion, built in 1870 was torn down in 1973. The 17 storey office tower built on the land in 1975(MacDonald Tobacco Co.) has been renovated in the last few years ..The Sofitel Hotel.

The St-Bridget refuge around 1896 and in 2008. It was built in 1869 and torn down in 1977.

 

At the corner of St-Catherine and City Councillor street once stood the Baptist church. It was built around 1875 and was torn down around 1906 to make place for the Bennet theater. The Bennet theater later changed name to the Orpheum theater and it was replaced in the late 1960's by an office tower. Only one building of the vintage picture remains now !

 

The St-James club at the corner of René-Levesque and university in 1891 and the same place in 2007. This private club was demolished in the 1960's and its neighbour to the left, the Harrison Stephen house was torn down in 1928 by the C.N.R.

The vintage picture shows the YMCA which was opened and dedicated on october 23, 1873. It was on the North east corner of Craig street ( now St-Antoine) and square Victoria. It was damaged by fire and the spire was not rebuilt. After 1891, the YMCA moved to the Dominion square, where the Sun Life building now stands. The building was later used as offices and it was torn down in 1911 to make way for another building, which was also torn down .

The corner of Craig street, now St-Antoine and Hotel de ville avenue around 1910 and in 2007. This building was the Drill Hall. It was used bythe military and it was torn down in the 1960's to build the highway.

It stood where now stands : place Montreal Trust, right on the north west corner of Sainte-Catherine and McGill College.

 

The address was 881-889 west Sainte-Catherine street , Montreal
