The city was named the top destination in America for hosting international association events, according to the official 2011 rankings set out by the Union of International Associations (UIA). As the principal host location in Québec for major international meetings, and as a 2011 finalist for the APEX award for World's Best Convention Centre, the Palais des congrès hosts thousands of conference-goers every year and generates major intellectual and economic spinoffs for Montréal and Québec.

One thing, haven't they been talking about expanding the Palais for the past few years now? It is interesting to see Montreal #1 for top host city for Int'l events for America.

Leur politique est de refaire/maximiser l'intérieur et les produits/services connexes avant tout. Le Palais est encore bien petit comparé à d'autres grands centres, je trouve qu'ils ne devraient pas attendre pour agrandir.

Comme dit LindbergMTL, reste maintenant à agrandir le Palais des Congrès pour qu'il puisse profiter davantage de cet engouement. L'espace aérien immédiatement à l'est et au-dessus de l'autoroute est idéal pour cette expansion, qui en même temps recouvrira un peu plus cette cicatrice hideuse. Il pourrait même rejoindre une future place publique qui pourrait être créée au niveau de la rue de l'Hôtel de Ville (au-dessus de la 720) en complétant le développement de ce secteur voisin du Quartier de la Santé.

 

On a ici une opportunité extraordinaire de réaliser un magnifique espace public qui ferait le lien entre les quartiers du Vieux-Montréal, le Quartier Chinois, le Quartier de la Santé et le Quartier International. Un lieu central qui pourrait être animé 24h et qui ferait l'objet d'un concours international que la Ville pourrait s'offrir pour son 375è anniversaire. De tous les endroits au cv, ce site est mon plus grand rêve pour la ville. Une place invitante, superbement aménagée et polyvalente, bordée d'un Palais des Congrès à la façade originale qui en même temps donnerait la réplique à son opposée à l'ouest sur la Place Riopelle.

 

La plus belle récompense d'abord offerte à l'équipe du Palais des Congrès et leurs associés pour leur travail exceptionnel; et finalement à toute la population montréalaise qui aimera s'y retrouver, pour toutes sortes d'événements au pied de son non moins réputé Hôtel de Ville. Un couronnement de classe pour une ville qui le mérite vraiment.

MONTRÉAL, July 10, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Montréal ranks first among the top cities in the Americas where international conferences are planned. This is according to the prestigious report issued by the Union of International Associations (UIA) for 2017. Montréal hosted 149 international conferences, finishing ahead of cities like Washington, New York, Chicago, Buenos Aires and Toronto. That's a new record, eclipsing the previous mark of 108 events set in 2005. More impressive still, Montréal hosted almost two-and-a-half times the events held by the second-place city.

Overall, Montréal accounted for 61% of all international events held in Canada. This figure clearly reflects the city's reputation within this key market, which contributes significantly to the Montréal and Québec economy. The city ranks 15^th worldwide.

Founded in 1907 by Nobel Prize winner Henri La Fontaine and Paul Otlet, the UIA publishes these world rankings based on a database consisting of 68,000+ organizations in 300 countries and territories.

At the top of another prominent international ranking 
The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) also ranks Montréal among the world's top host cities for international events. Number One in North America and second in the Americas, after Buenos Aires, the city performed well on the ICCA's list, whose results stem from a database of over 12,000 events that rotate between at least three different countries.

A new record: the 96 Montréal events the ICCA compiled for its 2017 list amount to a 26% increase over the previous record set in 2016. Since 2002, Montréal has topped the North America standings 10 times.
