The two buildings - which will house offices, luxury apartments, a shopping complex and a hotel - will dominate the skyline in the western business district of La Defense.

 

Work began on the Shard at London Bridge in February 2009 and it is already Europe's highest construction project at a cost so far of around £450 million.

 

The 87-storey building is due for completion in May this year, when it will stand at 1,017 feet tall and offer uninterrupted 360-degree views of London for 40 miles in every direction.

France is to build 1075-feet high twin towers that will trump London’s title as home to Europe’s highest building.

The two skyscrapers in Paris will be just 60 feet taller than the Shard, which is currently under construction in the British capital.

Planning permission for the French project called Hermitage Plaza - designed by British architects Foster and Partners - was granted by Paris officials this week.

 

The two buildings - which will house offices, luxury apartments, a shopping complex and a hotel - will dominate the skyline in the western business district of La Defense.

Work began on the Shard at London Bridge in February 2009 and it is already Europe’s highest construction project at a cost so far of around 450 million pounds.

 

The 87-storey building is due for completion in May this year, when it will stand at 1,016 feet tall and offer uninterrupted 360-degree views of London for 40 miles in every direction.

But it will only hold the title of Europe’s tallest building until Paris’s 93-storey Hermitage Plaza is completed in an estimated four years time.

 

Its British architect Norman Foster also designed Europe’s previous tallest building, the 860-feet high Commerzbank Tower in Frankfurt Germany, which will now be dwarfed by the London and Paris skyscrapers.

But all are still much less than half the height of the world’s tallest building, the 2,760-feet high Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai.

Si un projet pour Montréal arrivait avec 80 étages, juste au-dessus du plus haut building au Canada, la BMO, pensez-vous qu'il serait rejeté par la ville? (pure fantaisie dans le contexte actuel, bien-sûr).

Et c'est pourquoi les dérogations existent aussi. Sait-on jamais, peut-être verrons-nous cette question réellement se présenter contre toute attente.

Je pense que c'est très possible qu'un élan soit donné de ce côté-là. Si la ville se rend compte de l'importance symbolique pour Montréal de favoriser des projets qui la mettent en lumière, ça va se faire. Des complexes Desjardins, quand on déballe les quatres tours pour en faire une, ça ferait pas mal d'étages au bout du compte.

 

Moi, ma tour je vais la construire devant le Centre Bell, sur le grand stationnement. Çà c'est quand ma compagnie sera en bourse et présente dans plusieurs pays. Poutine Dépot Corp devrait se vendre plutôt bien comme concept de franchises à long terme. Ma tour serait de 98 étages en forme de frite dorée en sauce (acier cor-ten) un peu tordue avec en prime une excroissance au 55ième étage en forme de fromage en grain.

Aucune chance qu'un projet de 298 m soit accepté à Montréal. (je dis 298 m car la FCP à Toronto fait 297 m)
