Montréal est original, un bouillon vivant et fortifiant. Une ville créative et originale où on rement en question les choses. Une ville de trendsetters.

Les gens preferrent mettre l'argent a Toronto. Arretes de trouver des belles comparaisons. On se fait ramasser par Toronto c'est meme pas drole.

 

Notre marché immobilier se porte plutôt bien. On bat nos propres records. On construit des tonnes d'unités résidentielles. On ne construit pas autant en hauteur, dans des tours de 200 mètres, mais on construit à une échelle différente (une échelle qui n'existe que très peu à Toronto) en bonne quantité. Montréal ne sera jamais une ville verticale de la façon que Toronto le devient. Ça ne veut pas dire que notre ville mérite d'être traînée dans la merde pour autant, ou que notre développement urbain est moins bon. C'est ça mon point.

 

Bien sûr, Toronto a une performance de loin supérieure et autrement plus impressionnante. C'est vrai. Toronto a une meilleure performance que toute la planète! N'importe quelle ville doit être jalouse de Toronto en ce moment. Ce n'est pas une raison pour être pessimiste pour autant. Montréal est une championne de l'auto-dénigrement, et franchement, c'est une attitude bien plus dommageable que les chaudrons dans les rues. C'est de la que vient le manque de confiance en soit et le manque d'audace que l'on déplore.

 

Faut savoir compter sur nos forces, regarder les projets en fonction des particularités de Montréal, plutôt que de se comparer sans cesse à une ville très différente. Il y a une différence entre s'inspirer du succès de Toronto et se dénigrer de ne pas être son égal à toutes les occasions.

Montreal and Toronto are both great cities with their own strengths and weaknesses. I see both cities as complimenting each other rather than in competition with one another except for when it comes to hockey - Go Habs!

 

A number of analysts have been saying that Toronto is experiencing a bubble of sort but they have been saying that for the 8-9 years. Apart from a slight correction in 2008 there has been a upward trend in both prices and number of units being built. In my view, there are three main reasons for the type of growth: 1> to protect the green belt north of the city of low-rise single family units, the provincial government put a moratorium on new development on the Oakridge Moraine , 2> set intensification/density goals for nodes around the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and 3> there is an average of 100,000 people moving to the GTA every year, got to put them somewhere.

I still can't believe the St Lawrence Market is still in its planning stage. Didn't they think of it like 2-3 years ago? It is such a small development. I guess the next time I will go visit Toronto is by like 2020-2025. Maybe by my late 30s I might like that city.

It's taking a bit of time because they first have to build a temporary replacement one behind the older building. Once that one is built the north building will be torn down and rebuilt per the render.
