Quartier de l'Innovation Ets Mc Gill.

McGill prévoit se joindre à l'ÉTS pour établir un centre de recherche dans Griffintown: le Quartier d'innovation (QI) devrait au départ prendre la forme de 2 bâtiments, un pour chaque université. Les partenaires espèrent créer un effet d'entraînement et attirer les entreprises faisant de la recherche dans le quartier.

L'ETS est une entité indépendante de l'Université du Québec et l'a pas de lien particulier avec l'UQAM.

L'ETS n'est-elle pas simplement une école du réseau Université du Québec?

Oui l'ETS fait partie du réseau de l'Université du Québec et ils sont associés à McGill depuis 2 ou 3 ans pour lancer dans Griffintown ce fameux Quartier de l'Innovation. Comme le dit bxlmontréal, ils espèrent aussi attirer des corporations pour faire de la recherche ; les noms de Bombardier, Google et Monsanto ont été mentionnés mais il n'y a rien de fait à ce point. Un plan d'affaires va être présenté à la fin de mars, on devrait alors avoir un peu plus d'infos.

Lancement du Quartier de l'Innovation de Montréal - La Ville de Montréal est fière d'apporter son soutien au démarrage de ce projet majeur pour le développement de la métropole

Montréal, le 14 mai 2012 - Le maire de Montréal, M. Gérald Tremblay, ainsi que le vice-président du comité exécutif de la Ville de Montréal, responsable du développement économique et des grands projets, M. Richard Deschamps, se réjouissent fortement de l'annonce faite aujourd'hui concernant le lancement du Quartier de l'Innovation de Montréal. Ce nouveau projet, qui est une initiative de l'École de technologie supérieure et de l'Université McGill, vise à constituer un écosystème urbain propre à l'innovation sur le plan scientifique ainsi que technologique qui intégrera également les aspects industriels, urbains, sociaux et culturels.

 

Grâce à une contribution de la Ville de l'ordre de 350 000 $, ce projet pourra prendre forme par le biais d'activités de prédémarrage, l'élaboration du plan stratégique et la mise en place d'un organisme d'appui. Les gouvernements du Canada et du Québec ont également apporté un soutien financier au projet.

 

« Dans une perspective de transformation des grands centres urbains, le Quartier de l'Innovation représente une vision de convergence résolument axée sur le 21e siècle et préfigure la métropole que nous voulons célébrer pour le 375e anniversaire de Montréal. Une ville prospère qui atteste d'un environnement stimulant, tant sur le plan de la création entrepreneuriale que du savoir et de la culture, au sein de quartiers remodelés où il fera bon travailler, apprendre et vivre », a déclaré le maire de Montréal.

 

« Montréal célèbre aujourd'hui la naissance de son Quartier de l'Innovation, une nouvelle plateforme créative dédiée aux besoins des acteurs d'ici et d'ailleurs dans le monde, un écosystème moderne qui répondra aux nouvelles réalités du défi de l'innovation. Ce nouveau lieu de grande qualité contribuera à propulser la compétitivité de Montréal au niveau international. Ce sont nos entreprises, nos chercheurs, nos artistes et nos citoyens, mais aussi l'ensemble du Québec, qui en sortiront gagnants », a conclu M. Deschamps.

 

Le Quartier de l'Innovation constituera un lieu de vie intégré dans son milieu urbain, un espace mixte où entreprises du savoir ainsi que centres de recherche cohabiteront harmonieusement avec des zones d'habitation, de services et des commerces. Cette plateforme créative, située au cœur d'un quartier remodelé, confirmera Montréal comme une ville internationale de la créativité et de l'innovation.

The partnership between ÉTS and McGill receives generous support from the governments of Québec, Canada and the City of Montreal

 

The Quartier de l’innovation (QI) is one step closer to reality today, with the announcement from the governments of Québec, Canada and the City of Montreal that they will invest equal amounts in pre-start-up costs for the project, for a total of $1,050,000. The announcement was made today by Sam Hamad, Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade; Marguerite Blais, Minister Responsible for Seniors and MNA for Saint-Henri–Sainte-Anne; and Richard Deschamps, Vice-Chair of the City of Montréal Executive Committee.

 

Led by École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) and McGill University, the QI’s objective is to promote synergy between educational institutions and the business community in order to increase the potential for creativity and innovation, along with their practical applications in what might be called a “living laboratory”. The QI will be located close to downtown Montréal, in an area that includes Griffintown.

 

“We would like to thank the governments of Québec, Canada and the City of Montreal for their invaluable support,” said Heather Munroe-Blum, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University. “By combining the complementary strengths of our two institutions with the remarkable spirit of creativity of Quebec small and medium enterprises, the QI will lead to practical training opportunities for our students and facilitate the application of our researchers’ discoveries. The QI we envision will help better position Quebec as an innovation leader on the international scene.”

 

“The Quartier de l’innovation that we are building will be a place where the work environment and the living environment come together. By integrating the four axes that are essential to a creative society – industry, training and innovation, urban, and socio-cultural – this will be a place to live, learn, work, and relax,” added Yves Beauchamp, Director General of ÉTS. The interconnections among these axes will form the foundation of the QI and foster the type of innovative spirit that we wish to encourage.”

 

In drawing on the respective strengths of ÉTS and McGill, the QI will be a model of strategic complementarity. ÉTS ranks first in Quebec and fourth in Canada in terms of the number of engineering undergraduate degrees awarded each year. Close to 75 per cent of its research and development funding, representing approximately $21 million, comes from research contracts with more than 200 companies. McGill University is ranked 17th in the world, and boasts one of the largest patent portfolios among Canadian universities. McGill receives close to $470 million in research funds annually.

 

The mission of the Quartier de l’innovation will extend beyond its role in industry, science and technology, to encompass urban, social and cultural innovation. The goal is to build the neighbourhood as much around the businesses it will attract as around the people who live there. The project is intended to create a quality living environment that is diversified and attractive to residents, local shops, cultural activities and modern public services.
