Last June I shared my home-made list of Montreal Island buildings of a minimum of 15 floors that were either: a) under construction (crane in place) or b) in excavation or in the demolishment phase or c) approved or on sale

A couple of explanations on this update: I have kept Victoire on the approved list as originally presented (26 floors) only because we can be reasonably hopeful of concrete news in the near future. Also, I have included the 6 buildings proposed for the former Children’s hospital site, since for me, it is virtually certain to be approved, albeit possibly with some modifications, which I will then take into account.

Compared with last year at the same time, we have 2 more buildings under construction, 4 more building in the excavation or demolition phase, and 15 more buildings in the approved stage.

This adds up to a total of 75 buildings compared to 54 at the same time last year. Also, this does obviously not include the 6 buildings that I have defined as having been completed during the past 12 months.

There is bound to be some buildings overlooked, or mistakenly categorized, or even duplicated, and any corrections on your part will be appreciated.

Below is this June' s update of my list of buildings under construction, or approved. It is limited to buildings of a minimum of 15 floors and on the island of Montreal. 'Under construction'  is limited to where a crane is in place. Duke is an exception...since there appeared to be a crane there a few weeks ago, and although it has since been removed, I have no doubts that the construction process will not be interrupted. Since the demolition of the Childrens' is ongoing I have added to the second column only those which have been officially announced.

Some comparisons with a year ago. The combined numbers of those actually underway is down to 43 from 48 last year. However the number of announced sites is up from 27 to 33.

Also from last June to today, I have counted 15 buildings as being completed. That is more than double of any previous 12-month period going back to 2013-14.

I am sure that there are some errors here. I do this just on the basis of what I see on-line or in the press (I have no inside information.). Also, I get confused about Griffentown with all of its Griffens, Lowneys, etc. etc.  Perhaps Scarlet Coral could advise me on what corrections need to be made here.

Devimco Immobilier is planning a $3-billion project in the Griffintown area of Montreal, which would be the company’s biggest-ever development.

It will be “an extremely exciting” mixed-use project that will surpass the Devimco-created Quartier Dix30 and Solar Uniquartier in size, Devimco president Serge Goulet told RENX.

“It will be much bigger than Solar,” Goulet said during an interview at an event to unveil a 21-storey art installation at one of the company’s current projects. “It will be the biggest project Devimco has ever done.”

Proposed development a TOD project

Goulet said the proposed Montreal project will be a transit-oriented development (TOD).  The city’s new automated light-rail train, the Réseau express métropolitain (REM), will run through Griffintown and the area will receive a  Bassin Peel station.

“What’s particular about this project is that it will be a job-creation hub,” he said. “Fifteen years ago, the anchor for major projects was the shopping centre.”

The proposed project, however, will be an anchor for employment, he said, without providing further details.

Devimco owns much of the site envisaged for the project, though it would require the demolition of existing buildings such as warehouses.

Goulet said Devimco has submitted the project to Benoît Dorais, the mayor of Montreal’s Southwest borough. Discussions have to be held regarding zoning and other aspects of the project.

“I have the impression that by the end of the year we’ll be able to announce it,” he said.

Il est toujours intéressant de voir les projets les uns à côté des autres pour se rendre compte de leur ressemblances et/ou différences. Je propose un visuel rassemblant les plus grands projets présentement ''proposés''' au centre ville de Montréal, pour lesquels nous avons un rendu suffisamment fiable (peut-être alors excepté le R de la Montagne..), classés par nombre d'étages tel qu'affiché sur le forum en ordre décroissant. Les photos proviennent des entêtes des fils propres à chacun des projets.
