If Toronto is struggling in the NBA(They can't keep their superstars - T. Mac, Vince Carter, C. Bosh) imagine what it'd be like over here!

This is exactly my argument against MLB coming back to Montreal. I would love for MLB to come back and I would love for the NBA to come to Montreal too. What I don't like is when I hear people putting Montreal down because it doesn't have neither. Really?? N’allez pas croire que la NBA tâte le marché de Montréal. En fait, certainement pas pour y établir une équipe.
L’arrêt de la tournée NBA Jam Session dans la métropole, ce week-end, de même que la présentation d’un match pré-saison des Raptors de Toronto au Centre Bell, le 22 octobre prochain, ne doivent pas laisser place à de fausses interprétations.

«L’objectif de ces événements est davantage de donner la chance aux gens de voir le produit de la NBA de plus près», mentionne Sharolyn Kenworthy, représentante de NBA Canada.

Dans le cas de la partie préparatoire des Raptors contre les Knicks de New York, il faut surtout y voir un désir de la formation torontoise d’élargir sa clientèle et d’engranger un peu d’argent.

Le joueur québécois Samuel Dalembert, des Kings de Sacramento, se montre aussi très prudent, voire pessimiste, face à la venue possible d’une équipe à Montréal.

«Je ne suis pas en mesure personnellement d’analyser la viabilité économique d’un club de la NBA à Montréal, mais je pense que l’intérêt pour le basketball est bel et bien présent dans la métropole», note néanmoins Dalembert.

L’athlète croit toutefois que Montréal est plus susceptible d’accueillir des événements spéciaux.

«J’ai souvent parlé avec Steve Nash (grande vedette canadienne de la NBA) sur la possibilité d’organiser différentes choses pour le Canada, soit à Vancouver ou à Montréal, poursuit Dalembert. On pensait notamment au match des étoiles.»

En attendant le jour où match des étoiles de la NBA sera présenté au Centre Bell, une partie préparatoire demeure une belle consolation. La dernière rencontre de basketball professionnel à avoir été présentée à Montréal remonte à 1990. Ça se passait au vieux Forum

Seriously, at This point, I'm not even sure an open air stadium downtown would make the difference. If you don't have a payroll of at least 100 million$ in MLB, your team will miss the playoffs 9 years out of 10, and that year they will make it, they'll be taken out in the 1st round.

I'm not sure we could afford that kind of payroll , even with and open air stadium in Downtown Montreal!

Sad to say, but I think that's what the reality of the situation is!

Baseball is a sick sport where only a few teams have a real shot at the title every year. Even the young kids prefer soccer to baseball today. Let their dying sport stink somewhere else than in Montreal.

Je prendrais une équipe de la NFL bien avant une équipe de la NBA. Cela ferait mal au alouettes c'est sur. (J'aime le football canadiens, mais 8 équipe. ça fait pic pic pas mal...)

Si un sport doit s'implémenté dans la la métropole, c'est la NFL. Cependant, la NBA ne nécessiterais pas vraiment d'investissement majeur... mais je pense pas que le public serait la..

On entend a peine parler de la NBA et on entend pratiquement pas parler de ligue mineur québécoises...

Comme toi, même si j'aime bien la CFL, je crois que Montréal doit viser la NFL aussi aggréssivement que Québec vise la NHL. La NBA et la MLB, faut oublier ça.

i agree about major league baseball; its long overdue for an nhl style overhaul, perhaps even more drastic than that. better salaries management, for one, and maybe even less games. (i know, i know... )

theres a difference, however, between having a market that can buy championships, and simply being able to maintain profitability. montreal may not be a contender for the former, but it really isnt all that far from the latter, in either football, baseball or basketball. and there are more things to enjoy about pro sports than just the post season; as we say, it's all about the journey. i really miss
baseball in the summer, and i would like to go even more if it were played outdoors.

as for what montreal can offer that toronto doesn't? well, you may all come up with different reasons, but to me, theyll all be trivial, since i dont feel like it needs to bring anything more than toronto.

Entre un bon match de Football à l'extérieur ou un match de Baseball, je choisit haut la main le football.

Crier et faire du bruit lorsque l'attaque adverse est sur le terrain, sa anime une foule et ça donne une ambiance du tonnerre. J'adore !
